The Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is a wonderful hiking area. On and under the catwalks built with wooden beams along the streams and lakes it gurgles and gurgles continuously and you feel transported into another world. One photo motif follows the next and you could certainly spend days here without losing the desire to discover and take photos. A camera or lenses with image stabilization are also worthwhile here, because a tripod is often difficult to set up and also starts to vibrate if other visitors pass you on the narrow wooden walkways. Many places require longer exposure times, be it the secluded and darker places or the waterfalls and rapids that you want to depict appropriately.

We visited the lakes in October and were lucky enough to see the autumn colors of the forests. A trip to the lakes is certainly worthwhile in winter, when the frost has remodeled the many waterfalls into bizarre ice formations - we will also have a look at that.
